The light yesterday evening was amazing, with some great clouds. We have the best clouds. Nobody does weather and clouds like us. Some other people say they get great clouds, but that's just fake news. Sad. :)

Hehe... especially when you fake it via a cloudy white balance (7500K) ;)

Fair enough. What was then the camera's white balance? I also find the dirt road in the first image strangely reddish.

The camera's white balance is the same as always - on my D800 it comes up as d-1. The colour of the footpath soil is down to the Devonian sandstone here which is pretty red. I've not touched saturation, that's just how it is.

When you open the file in a post processing software, it should show you the temperature. I am not trying to argue or to criticize, just curious. I also heard, on occasion, that Nikon colors tend to go toward yellow-brown. Again, never worked with Nikon, just curious.

I think that, as usual, Bill did some fine shooting. But if he wants to know what the world's finest clouds look like, he needs to visit Montana -- "big sky country."

#1 is especially nice. I love the straight-from-the-camera path against all the diagonal lines.

But if you are trying to prove that Nikon clouds are better than Canon or Sony clouds, then I want you to go back and photograph all of those same clouds in exactly the same light with a Canon and a Sony. :D

No you're all completely wrong of course, the clouds where I live in the North West Highlands of Scotland, are always going to be far better than what any of you guys ever see, and to prove it here is a view of a really weird cloud formation taken with a Sony just last week through my open window, and which also proves that Sony clouds are always going to be better than Nikon and Canon etc, clouds :P
I just happen to look out of the window on my way to the toilet and it looked like the end of the world or something, I was stood there calling the wife to come and take a look (at the clouds) and expecting the four horsemen of the apocalypse to ride by at any minute :o
I actually took the shot to send it to the BBC weather people, but you have to join their weather watchers club or something, so I didn't bother, but I bet they would have used it on the news if I had. It was actually quite scary to look at.
Does anyone know what cloud formations like this are called?

I think those are called Canon Avenger Clouds, coming to try to rain on all this talk about Nikon and Sony. :D

It's the flavour, stupid: here are Mallorcan ice cream clouds - probably vanilla, but, as it didn't rain, I shall never know:

I like it, Rob. Especially with the added whipped cream.
Perhaps a little fudge sauce would enhance it further, but it's good as it is.

In retrospect, I'd have done a little bit more whipping... as I remember the occasion, we were sitting down on the terrace having a canapé or two with a little drop of something or the other to wash it down, so whipping wasn't the first thing on my mnd. I was probably looking forward to lunch.
Looking at the dates for the file, it must have been shot in September of 2008; just shows you how violent cancer can be: two months later she was no more. Yet, at that time, she was perfectly able to do anything she wanted to do; her hair had even grown back fully with an improved colour... you wouldn't have guessed she was ill. From speaking with her, one would never have known, even at the worst times. Guess some folks have a lot of courage and determination.
C'est la vie.
