The first is lovely, Rajan, but you've kept the best for your blog: Mælifell and Veðurháls II is just stunning.

Mælifell and Veðurháls II is just stunning.

Yes, that was the one that really stood for me too.

Absolutely amazing.
The only place in Iceland where I saw colors like that was at Landmannalaugar, which doesn't have the lovely black lava sand as a backdrop.

I assume the green color is from sulfur?

Thank you very much, gentlemen.

Eric - the green is due to moss. It is especially striking on an overcast day after a spell of rainy weather and depending on the direction of the light, the hues change. This area along the Syðra-Fjallabak (South Fjallabak) route is like another planet. Landmannalaugar lies on the Nyrðri-Fjallabak (North Fjallabak) route, an area of red & orange hued rhyolite slopes.

Some of the moss in Iceland is amazing.  Thick as a mattress (ok, a thin mattress...).  You could sleep on it.

For me, Mælifell and Veðurháls II really is the best of this exquisite set.
