According to http://www.photoscala.de/node/view/2116 (http://www.photoscala.de/node/view/2116) Sinar announces for the 25th of September a new compact MF high-end camera. Did they team up with Rollei?

As far as I know, Sinar and Rollei (Franke and Heidecke) are both owned by Jenoptik. I guess it wouldn't take too much of their expertise to reate a new digital MF camera.
I can't wait!

Leica is now a partner of Jenoptik in the M8 project.
Do you think Leica could design medium format lenses for Jenoptik in the future?

It's a very bad kept secret that Rollei (Franke & Heidecke) is releasing a new Medium Format
camera at the Kina!
It's about time that Hasselblad will get some competition! LOL

That depends how deep your pockets are!
If you want the best,you have to pay for it!
I don't think any German made camera system, with it's lenses also made in Germany
will be as affordable as a Mamiya,Pentax etc.
You only have to compare a Leica system with a Canon or Nikon system.
I rest my case!

The difference is that Canon/Nikon sell cameras in huge volumes, which really brings the price down. No-one in medium format is selling 500,000 units a year, or even 5,000.

this seems a logical step,
sinar announced these fines (and expensive) AF-Lenses that only work on their M-body. There can't be that many buyers for their M-body yet (a few hundred?)
A new body could use these digital lenses too, and could be based on an old Rollei design.
I will be interesting to find out which backs will fit on this body, only Sinar (lime the m?) ?

My guess is that it will be a slimmed down 6008 body - without the motor drive (now unneeded) but still maintaining (hopefully) the lens mounts for the wonderful Rollei lenses.
Alternatively, it could be a 645 RF type, compact, but with a full sensor. Sort of like a digital Mamiya 6/7?
It will be interesting to see how they deal with the sensor, and does the back protrude much (and thus is interchangeable perhaps with other manuf?), or is it integrated, and slim (like the Leica DMR/M8 approach).
Will they keep the Waist level finder with the 645 format? There really hasn't been a popular 645 WLF for some time, altho old Rollei clients love the 6x6 and WLF. These are challenges for the new designers.

That's a good point about the not needed motordrive!
No more film to wind on!
I didn't think about that.
It's certain Rollei will keep and only add to their current superior to most brands lens line up!
Only a few more weeks and we shall find out!

This occurred to me also, especially after the M8 announcement. I was watching a documentary on Barry Goldwater tonight and in one scene he was mobbed by press photographers and all were shooting - not Speed Graphics - but Rollei TLRs!
I miss my Rollei but not like my Leica. Never really liked shooting from the waist, but I guess it would make a great street camera.

Nothing against TLRs, but Rollei really needs to get its 6000 series bodies better supported with digital. The P20 is not enough for many would-be users, but the 6000 is an awesome platform. What a waste...
I'm hoping for 6000 series body designed purely for digital.

I own three 6008 bodies, nine 6008 series lenses and a Sinar eMotion back.
I'd love a 'proper' digital platform for what I consider to be one the best cameras I've ever used. It would simplify things quite dramatically. I find those little cables going to the digital back quite annoying.
But I did get informed when I was working in Tokyo about a month ago that there might be a DTLR, the source seemed quite reliable. They also told me about the imminent 35mm 'Flektagon' lens - which would be rather useful with a 645 sensor.
I think it's a case of wait and see...

what cables are you talking about? the 6008af and 6008iII talk to the backs that support rollei...i thought the older 6008i works the same way?
i don't see rollei giving up on film completely on this new 645...so i think a motordrive will be built in..if they want to go head to head with hasselblad they have to provide a platform for both film and digital...i just hope the new camera will support all lenses...and considering they just came out with a couple of new af versions not too long ago (and still show some as coming out soon) i think they will...

I have 2 integrals and one AF. The Sinar back communicates via cables and not the contacts that the Rollei possesses. I suspect that this is due to the back being able to rotate (which is good!). If I'm shooting without a laptop attached which is most of the time it has one cable attached. I'd prefer none.

the latest AFs and integrals talk to the backs via the contacts...you might have to check with rollei on the serial numbers...they are selling the 6008af/emotion22 as a digital bundle and there are no cables necessary (as far as i know)..i have the 6008af and P20 bundle and there are no cables needed...but when i got a second af body, it had to be upgraded to work with the P20...there are 2 different versions of 6008af...
i am looking into the emotion back(s) but the cable is unacceptable...had that with the 555eld..did not like it at all...
the contacts only trigger the back anyway...no meta data, iso setting...gets communicated anyway...which is not a problem for me..but one more cable/thing to get loose/fail...not fun..

I use both Sinar/Jenoptik Eyelike 22 and Phase One db20 on my two Rollei 6008AF bodies.
I have to use the PC cord with the Sinarback on the Rollei (as I do with Alpa). There is no communication between the back and the camera, the rotating adapter blocks the contacts. Sinar supplies 2 cables with the back and the adapter. A regular PC cord and a special cable for the Master Control socket. I agree that with all the cables Rollei became more cumbersome. I was offered to upgrade the camera and tested a Sinar 75 in July. The new back cannot be used without cables on Rollei, I am afraid. I decided to skip the generation and wait for new exiting (well integrated) things after Photokina.
I also noticed that my Rollei +db20 is almost silent, I am not a technical person but I suspect that the attached back somehow switch off the motor drive of the camera. I can hear the camera motor with the Eyelike
