What is the best place to get your MF camera gear insured for the 2 following scenarios:
1. Hobbyist
2. Commercial
Right now I am a hobbyist with future commercial aspirations :-)
Main concern is loss of equipment whilst traveling/someone grabbing my camera and running off etc...hopefully never happens but one has to protect once investment!
Any suggestions/thoughts appreciated.

http://tcpinsurance.com is another one. One other place to look is who your rental shop lists/knows. Understand what your rates would be and what adding short term rental coverage for larger amounts when the gear involved exceeds your own.
May you never need to make a claim, but know that you'll be taken care of if you do.

One thing to think about. When you go commercial you should have business insurance, at least liability insurance. Most clients will require it if you are on their premises. Also, if you want to shoot for yourself in place like a railroad station, museum, or other place like that you will need to show a “Certificate of insurance” and in some cases a “additional insureds” listed on the COI. City permits may also ask for insurance and additional insureds.
Part of our business insurance is the coverage of camera equipment, business equipment, rental equipment, non-owned automobile liability, computer equipment….
I understand ASMP, PPA, and Taylor & Taylor provide insurance policies tailored to photographers. We have ours with the same company as our auto & home owners.
It is necessary and should be factored into your business plan.

I haven't yet had to claim, but their still photography packages were extremely competitive.
I also just had them quote me on UAV insurance (liability) and we recently used them for production insurance on a moving image project as well.
They have an LA office, so I assume they can help you in the states.
