Title: Dock Tarn Again
Post by: KMRennie on August 25, 2017, 07:38:27 am
The first is a square crop of one of the shots from the other forum. I always envisaged this as a square crop even though it puts the tree quite close to the centre. Any thoughts? The other image is a 9 shot panorama.  Again any thoughts? Ken

Not exactly my 'cup of tea' but very well done. By not opening up the shadows too much you've given them a real late afternoon, storm brewing mood.

Reminds me of the moors around Todmorden or Haworth on a certain kind of day

#1: I like the composition. The clear parts of the sky seem a bit dull for a partly sunny day, but maybe that's the mood you're aiming for.

I like #1 a lot, too: both the composition and the mood.

For me the tree in #1 isn't centered too much. I think it's a pretty good position/ composition. I don't think anything can be said against it.

The pano is nice, too, as always it's something i like to see larger as screen allows ...

I like the square a lot. Subtle color and pleasing contrast.

Very nice, square format is perfect for this shot. It's another winner.

The square shot really works! I like the composition, and the light is wonderful.

Thanks everyone. I like the square crop shot, the other is so so. Just to finish it off here are another 3 shots. The first one 0572 is a focus stack and the square crop is just a bright sunny shot but not as nice as the first streak of sunshine square shot. Later I may go for a walk in the grouse moors above me as the heather should be good. Ken

It certainly is an image that works in square format.

I really like the second image.  Next time throw on a really dark ND filter and shoot the pond for about 5 to 10 minutes.

Thanks for the comments Cornfield and Alskoj. As for 5 min exposures what I would "gain" in the streaked cloud stakes I would probably have lost with the blowing heather so I decided not to try. I quite like the little bit of ripple on the water and that would have been lost. I could of course have shot this one and a long exposure one and merged them with a bit of masking but I do not think that the image is worth it. Ken
