Title: In Vancouver, what to shoot?
Post by: dealy663 on August 26, 2006, 12:44:35 pm: Hi everyone, I just arrived in Vancouver yesterday. The sunset was beautiful here! Anyway, I'm gonna be here 'till tuesday, and was hoping someone might be able to offer a few suggestions of where to go shoot.

I'm mostly interested in Landscape/nature photography.

Post by: dlashier on August 26, 2006, 02:08:45 pm: I assume you mean in town, not trips. Vancouver has a wealth of parks, for starters try:
- Stanley Park, of course
- Capilano River
- Lynn Canyon
- Kitsilano Beach for city scapes
- Grouse Mtn. tram
- maybe take a ferry ride (Victoria or Nanaimo)

Vancouver is such a photogenic city, I wouldn't overlook city scapes.

If it looks like another good one try the Grouse Mtn tram as Don suggests. As the sun goes down the mix of city lights and sunset can be killer.
Also, if you get up there late afternoon there are two captive grizzly bears that are very accomodating for photosgraphs. Try the hike from the top of the Peak chair lift.

If you have time for a drive the trip up to Whistler is quite scenic and if you brought a decent pair of shoes and want a workout there should still be quite a few wildflowers around Garibaldi lake, the trail isn't that scenic though, moslty in heavy timber and it's a 3-4 hour grind getting up there.
The grouse mtn. tram is definitly less strenuous with good views and there should be some wildflowers up there too.

Just to emphasize, a fantastic (and sometimes overlooked) spot is Grouse Mountain, right above West Vancouver. It's very close, very inexpensive, and offers incredible panoramas of the city and the sound. It's also a beautiful tram ride. Try at dusk

Post by: manrico Scremin on September 01, 2006, 06:27:46 pm: Grouse Mountain is even less expensive if you walk up via the Grouse Grind. Good excercise too! (About 2,700 vertical feet in 1.5 miles.)
