Spent a week in Luxemburg and Belgian Ardennes. Great for walks but I couldn't get to grips with photographing in the dense woods but went to this famous waterfall (Schiessentümpel). I still like the long exposure look even though it is considered old hat. Ken

Indeed. It takes new pre-visualization skills for doing long exposure time types of shots.

Thanks for the comments. Bart in a way you are correct about the previsualisation because the long exposure looks very different from how your eyes percieve the scene or how a 1/100s shot renders it but the ability to review the image shows you how it looks. I have been concentrating on taking images like this for the last 2 years and still need to check if I have got the exposure time correct. As soon as I saw the first longish exposure on the rear screen I knew that I had something that appealed to me. Why people make disparaging comments about "chimping" is beyond me. People who never check their images before leaving are either brilliant or on occasion arrive home with sub optimal images. Since this waterfall is approx 800 miles from home I can't run back and retake it. This is the almost straight on version of this shot and I like it but not as much as the first that requires a bit of scrambling that my 60+yr old knees are starting to find difficult.

Allow me to agree and disagree.
I agree both shots are beautiful and painterly ... but (to me) they represent an (overdone) cliche on stopping the water movement.
Sometimes it's nice to see the actual force, energy, and authentic movement of waterfalls and such ... as to the over-done "freezing/blurring-motion" efforts.
I like to see motion, pounding energy, and force too ... as nature is not always on Valium and 'peaceful' ...

Thanks very much for the comment John. I also like to see pounding energy in images when the feeling grabs me or where that rendering produces a more pleasing (to me) image. This stream is approx 10ft wide and the falls less than 5ft high with, in the summer, a very small flow of water. The fast shutter speed shots show the falls to be insignificant. My way of rendering them produces a graphic image that I like. I agree that it is a much used style of image I think that I have produced 6 such waterfall images and will, in time, no doubt produce a different style when the mood takes me. Ken

I think #1 has a more unified composition. I also like how the flow extends across the pool.

I fully agree on the composition, #1 is stronger but both are excellent.
