Title: Z3200 - What happens if the ink really runs out?

I've read plenty of posts about "non standard" ink cartridge use in z3200 printers and mine is now happily sucking MK out of a 772 cartridge. I know that the printer is able to account for how much ink a cartridge has supplied and apparently writes "empty" to the cartridge chip when it is exhausted but does it know it is empty by virtue of the accounting procedure does it physically sense the absence of ink? In other words, if you disrupt the accounting process by chip swapping, what happens if the cartridge runs dry?

Nothing special - cartridge is sealed, so when ink is consumed it stops to flow. System will detect that and inform you that cartridge is empty - the same way as with regular cartridge.

Ok, so I can safely run it dry but then presumably the chip will be then written as "empty" and I'll have to go through another 130ml cartidge to get another usable one.

How significant are the savings?
Or are you using third party ink?

What ink are you using? Personally I find lightly expired OEM ink at over 50% savings. Much rather use expired OEM ink than 3rd party ink.

Nobody in this thread is using third party inks. The 772 cart of 300ML has the same Vivera pigment ink but is made for a more recent printer model.

Exactly - but also depends - in some cases I managed to use the same chip several times, although cartridge runs dry.
In some other cases it was declared as "empty" after the ink was consumed.
You must try for each chip.
