Title: well
Post by: Jeremy Roussak on May 13, 2017, 12:13:35 pm
This is an old one which I came across while looking for something else. Thoughts?

It seems, to me, to have a strong negative mood, as if it is about something that is not there.

Well...
Maybe I'm missing something, but this doesn't do much for me. It does, though, portray a sense of melancholy, and certainly gives the sense of incompleteness, but, perhaps it's "a sharp photo of a fuzzy concept".

i see yin - yang (by the careful position of the pully) at  a gateway between the world of the living and dead and an entrance to the netherworld.

So what was at the bottom of the well ?

The style of the well (squarish, strict, austere) provides a good contrast against the natural background. I like it but wouldn't hang it in my living room.

I find a good deal of resonance with this image.

Is this a traditional well? There are traditional wells in Goa with laterite lining both in traditional dwellings as well as in open fields (like the image above). They are very interesting from a cultural/historical/documentary standpoint. Jeremy just gave me the impetus for an upcoming blog post.

This photo for me is like an itch that won't go away.
Something is intriguing about it, but I can't pin it down.

Any chance you have a colour version you could post, Jeremy? The mood would certainly be different.

Thanks, chaps.

Terry has seen what I was aiming at.

Rajan, I don't know: probably. It's on a farm in France. I'll be back there, or thereabouts, in the summer and I'll talk to the owner. I'll look forward to your blog, as ever.

Eric, herewith. Not processed much.

Now I'll have to say "well" done!
Somehow the color version works better for me, even with subdued colors that don't shout.

The color just doesn't do much for me. Lost the "landscape street"  look. Maybe as a platinum/palladium toning ?
