The combination of a very cold morning, an old iPad v2, and a random barn.

For good measure, that isn't snow, it's frost.

The first one has a nice pastel look to it. Where were these taken?

The Netherlands. One of the very few upsides of living here: the sun will be relatively low in the sky during a winterday, which gives a very nice light, the downside of course being that it is generally never visible and hidden behind a thick layer of low overcast gray pretty much 90% of the time...

It must be very cold, if the cycle-path isn't full of mothers pedaling along with two kids and the grocery shopping attached to their bike...

Ah, frozen (but perfect) geometry, then.

Given the right conditions, iPads take great photos. We're in Iceland right now and my wife is using an iPad Mini - the photos are fabulous! Hard to imagine that it has the same 12mp resolution as my high end Olympus had just a few years ago!
If I was still serious about teaching students to "see" photos, I'd have each of them use a tablet of some kind - great size for viewing and discussing composition on the spot.

Ah, but this isn't Amsterdam though. On the other hand what they have here now are electric versions of these (https://www.babboe.nl). With them electro engines getting stronger and stronger, there is hardly any need to actually put some effort in yourself...
What might also be a deciding factor is that, while red, this isn't a bikelane. Just a dead-end road along the canal for local residents. Normally full of fishingrods plus accompanying men with nothing better to do. :-\

Oh o, you now got me worried that you are actually serious about teaching math...

Yes, these things keep getting better. Using stacking can really give beautiful noise free, well textured images. I would like to see some contraption to stick several components together.
1 - A tablet that can be tilted within reasonable limits
2 - A sony smart lens with sw that's photographerfriendly and actually works
3 - A tripod mount
That would give the modern day equivalent of a viewcamera I suppose, a more contemplative form of photography so to speak.
