Long term planning for next year (2018)

Long drive from Ontario to Yellowstone et al. Would mid September be a good time?

good for ?

avoiding families with kids - yes
tourists - some
fall colors - varies, possible
snow - early unlikely, late- possible
staying at the lodges ? book very soon, may be already filled up.
enjoying a glass of your favorite by a fire in the lodge - you bet.

September is a great time to visit.  End of September is best for color most years.  Lodges at the parks close late September so plan ahead.
