It had been three months since I last took a photograph with my big camera (plenty of Iphone snaps) I spent a few days in the UK Lake District last week and got three shots which I like for various reasons. All were shot handheld with the D810 and 70-200F4. All in midday light with extreme contrasts. We had stunning clouds and weather which changes in seconds from blue to black. Most of the time I'd say the camera doesn't matter but in these conditions managing to spot meter in manual on the brightest areas and recover shadows where needed is nice.

Wow. Superb, IMO.

Excellent set, Phil, particularly the first.

I like all three but prefer #2 as the best but that's splitting hairs over the other two.

Thank you Jeremy. No1 is my favourite aesthetically no.2 for the challenging light conditions

Thanks Chris No2 was the most challenging to shoot the light lasted for seconds and was so bright on the Lake it hurt to look at it.

I love B&W landscapes, and I love the Cumbrian fells. So no surprises that I love these three. They are rather superb.

Thank you very much Bill. It's a very special place only 1 hour 30 from my door yet I get there so infrequently due to the day job commitments

I agree with Jeremy. The river ribboning through the valley and reflecting light makes the picture.

All excellent, but my vote is also for #2.

Interesting photos. Striking. Lots of contrast.
I like the first. Well balanced composition. Plenty of dynamic range.
Two thumbs up.

That's an outstanding set of images. Well done.

+1. I marvel at your b/w processing, as it strikes me as very film-like in the best possible sense.

Thank you very much Bob, I really appreciate that comment. I try to keep it simple. Camera in Manual (To be honest it always is except on the rare occasions I photography Wildlife), Spot Meteriing, simple B/W processing in Lightroom thats about it. I work in IT I don't want to be in front of a computer anymore than I have to.
Of course stunning winter light and weather constantly changing helps a lot too.

All three superb!

Yes!

No 2.
Reminds me of Ben Lawers on a bad day. (Ben's a mountain, not a guy.)
Which translates into a great shot.
