Just for grins and giggles, I redid this image to see how much feather detail I could get...maybe I need a hobby.

To my eye, it worked very nicely.

I use a variety of plug ins - Tony Kuyper Luminosity Masks, and the complete NIK package in conjunction with Photoshop.

Very good, you have preserved the whites while having good darks in the water.  The wind in the feathers makes this an exceptional image.
