Title: A or B
Post by: BobDavid on January 24, 2017, 02:13:03 am
Which is better?

Tough choice here - each is excellent in its own right!

The image with the lighter sky has lightly more detail in the trees but my gut is to go with the image that has the darker sky.
I am not certain the I can offer a rational explanation for my choice though.

Hi,

If the focus is the garage, I will go with the first one, in the second one my eyes goes continuously to the sky... The first one they stay more focused on the garage...

I prefer A. Both are very good anyway.

With all the lights on they both look as if they belong in your night wanderings series, but the light sky looks more like midday.
So I will vote for the dark sky one, too.

No question in my mind, Bob. #1 is the better rendering. Another winner, by the way.

When you see them next to each other ... A stands out.
+ these colours belong to the evening light and give the photo more atmosphere.

Wow! The first six responders all agree! When has that ever happened on LuLa?

B is my favorite.

The pavement in A, asphalt and concrete, is more dramatically lit than it is in B.  Whereas the gradient of light and color across the facade is more complex in B.  This results in my reading of the building in A as a fairly flat object pierced by the open bay and my reading of the building in B as a three dimensional object in competing and balanced lights on a rather flattened field.

Yesterday, halfway through my 5 o'clock drink, I almost went out to photograph the near-by well lit tennis and basketball courts from a prospect I had studied.  I stayed home; telling Stacy that I would just be imitating you.  Also I would have needed to hurry because I prefer the earlier balance of light seen in B.

Thanks for the feedback.

It's weird how much subjectivity goes into processing a file. The actual scene is closer to "A," but I liked the amount of detail I was able to pull out of the sky in "B."

In keeping with with the night theme, I will go with "A." I think Bruce's comment about the facade of the garage appearing more 3D in "B" is a good observation. I'll try to work that into the final tweaks on "A."  Again, thank you for the good feedback.

It's A all the Way! The brighter sky and paler artificial light in B kills the vibe IMO.
