Yosemite Valley is finally getting some snow with more on the way tonight. Here is what it looked like this afternoon.
-
Looks fantastic!!
How's the view from by the river (e.g. Valley View)?
-
Very Nice! :)
-
Nice with just a thin blanket of snow…
-
I cant believe that's all the snow there is? Question is that the first real snow of the season?
-
Yesterday it snowed all the way down to El Portal 2000 ft. I drove it and was walking through about a foot on snow on the valley floor. Finally we have winter!

Yup. Mariposa, Oakhurst, etc... as well.
And work is keeping me in L.A.. Sigh.

Here is one from last night from El Capitan Meadow. I of course had a snow day!
-
Simply wow! With all the snow in late Jan, I wonder how the Firefall will be, sans the fog.
-
The first one is nice, but this new one is really super!

Its very interesting to see how a big amount of the trees have died in the valley and have turned reddish in color. I didn't see that when I was there several years ago. Shame the scene has been ruined by the bark beetle. Tim

The first two are among the best I have seen from this viewpoint. I prefer the B/W treatment. Speaking of dead trees, I would clone out the distracting dead tree just to the right of Bridalveil waterfall.
-
Tim,
Were these taken on Monday? I thought I saw a truck by the woodpile that goes up to the Old Big Oak Flat Road. The beetle kill has been huge and has effected more than just Yosemite. Prior to the 1870's Yosemite Valley was much wetter and had more oaks and fewer pines. Thanks to Galen Clark, the terminal moraine was blasted so that the river valley would drain. This was an early mosquito abatement program.

Thanks for all the photos!
Has anyone been there the past 1 to 2 days? I'm really interested in knowing the very recent conditions as I'm thinking of sneaking away to there for 1-2 days over the weekend.

A beautiful set. Note to self, sell a kidney & visit Yosemite

Starting next week is Firefalls season for a week or so.
Anyone want to snow shoe 8 miles with me up to glacier point on Saturday?
I'm going to kick my own ass for sure.

If your kidneys are type O, I'll buy one. ;D
Yosemite is definitely worth a kidney.

Eric?

Eric?
Actually, my kidneys have been stable for over a year now, and I'm hoping I won't have to go on dialysis before I finally come up with a kidney on the lottery. I'm two years into my estimated six-year wait for a kidney on the official wait list.

Sorry to say that it has been raining in Yosemite Valley. Here is what the Merced River looked like this morning from El Portal.

Here are some from Sunday morning near Glacier Point. It was a 10 mile ski for this view.
