Title: "Movements" tool crashes C1
Post by: gebseng on January 18, 2017, 07:04:10 am
Hi everyone on the forum,

Lately, I have a strange problem in C1 (10.0.1) on a Macbook running macOS 10.12.2: I am using the Samyang 24mm f3.5 Tilt-Shift lens on my Sony Alpha 7.
In order to correct for the pronounced barrel distortion this lens produces when shifted, I enter the proper shift distance in the Lens Correction tool's "Movement" tab and then add around 20% distortion in the "Lens" tab of the same tool. This corrects the distortion perfectly, great job C1!

Unfortunately, as soon as I do this, the histogram, levels, and curve tools do not show graphics anymore. The color picker also doesn't show values above the preview. Also, if I click into the image with the color picker tool, C1 processor load goes up to 400% and the software becomes very unresponsive. As soon as I set the "Movements" tab values all back to zero, everything is fine and working properly again.

P1 support only suggested to work without histograms etc, which is not a viable option of course.

I also tried disabling OpenCL, to no avail.

I also tried using the "Movements" tab with other RAW files (Leaf Credo .IIQ, Olympus .ORW), with the same bad results. So, it seems to be a general problem with the Lens Correction tool and not specific to Sony .ARW files.

How can I use the "movements" tab properly?

The C1 manual states:
“Lens correction: Movement:
If you are using a lens or camera system that can have movements applied, go to the Movement tab in the Lens Correction tool.
If the Focal Length and Aperture can be detected, the values will automatically be shown in the corresponding fields. Otherwise manually enter the information.
Enter the shift data for the x and y axis. Changing the shift parameters will have a positive benefit on the distortion and light falloff corrections in particular.
Enter the shift data for the x and y axis.”

Has anyone ever successfully worked with the "Movements" tab? It would be great to get input from you on that matter,

best,

geb

Sounds like you're using it correctly - P1 confirmed it as a bug to me as well.

Sorry to hear this hasn't been fixed in 10.0.1 - guess I'm still not upgrading.  This is a show-stopper for me, (along with the Open-CL crashing) the movements adjustment is main reason why I use C1.

Thanks Alan! Did it work in C1 9? For me this would be a reason to downgrade.

Yes, I'm using 9.3 on a Mac.

Hi,
My very fast black Mac Pro needs up to 20s for a 100% view in C1 10.0.1 when I use the "Movements" tab. That's not acceptable.
With my slower Mac Book Pro 2013 the Spinning Beach Ball stays for 2 min and more and sometimes C1 crashes.
In C1 9.3 there was no problem with this tool.
The "Movements" tab is not only for distortion correction important. Also the CA will be better corrected with it.
The new sharpening tool also slows everything down.
I win some time with the much faster LCC tool but I loose a lot more time with sharpening and movements.
I'm not happy.
Regards,
Ben

The symptoms you describe are precisely, with the exception of processor usage, what I experience with Canon G7X files that have been converted to DNG.  Native G7X raws and all my other files that have been converted to DNG are all fine.

So it doesn't only seem to be the 'movements' tab that produces this bug.

And I also noticed that 10.0.0.1 didn't resolve the issue, even though I reported it as a bug shortly after 10 was released (and sent them a sample G7X DNG).

EDIT:  Assuming by 'color picker', you mean as in the color editor..  I clicked various points and no colors are ever selected, save for some very dark or black areas where it seems to 'pick' a random color to work with.  Still no responsiveness changes, though.

Movements are working now in 10.0.2, thanks P1!
