A fine first post, John. I look at it, remember growing up in Michigan, and feel happy that I'm in Florida now.

These are wonderful. For me, they convey desolation.  A stark and almost barren winter farmscape is nicely enhanced by the shallow depth of field. This one increases the sense of desolation. The second, an otherwise frigid winter seascape is brought to life by the sun. A beautiful sunny desolation.

An excellent first post, both images.
The three featured corn husks in the first are very expressive, and the light in the second is superb.
