Decided to stay close to home and headed down to the beach. Scripps Pier gets lots of attention from photographers but had it all to myself for once.

Nice shot - I'm astounded that you had a relatively empty beach at sunset, even in winter. I've always had to get up in the dark or go out on a seriously nasty day to get anything like a clear shot at that place. :)

Thanks James. As you know there is usually a line of tripods under the pier but it was very quiet for a Sunday afternoon. :)

A beautiful image!
Much, much better than just a casual glance suggests.
Great use of symmetry and classic colour theory applied.
I could see a lot of people prepared to pay top dollar for a large print of this image on a wall!

Thanks everyone for your kind words. It was a wonderful afternoon. :)

Very well done. I also like the "tension" between the vertical pier and the horizontal composition.

I agree with all of the other comments. Well done.

Tony is right: I also spent some time examining the photo and appreciating it. It should win a prize for many reasons. Perhaps you might enter it in a competition or have it displayed in a gallery.
