Title: LR / 3800 Super A3 problem
Post by: Jeremy Roussak on October 30, 2016, 11:21:36 am
I realise it's an out-of-date printer, but it shouldn't do this, surely.

I have acquired some Epson Super A3 paper, 329x483mm, 13"x19". I have defined a custom paper size (with margins 0 all round) because the standard Super A3 in the Epson driver is 339x493, for some reason. In LR, I've set up the page as shown in the image below.

I'm trying to print a photo which, at full height, is a little narrower than the paper. In the print dialog, all looks fine (see second image). When it prints, though, the width is 317mm, as it should be, but the height is only 442mm, with large margins and the image cropped top and bottom.

I'm sure I must have something wrong in the settings: it prints perfectly well on A4 and A2 paper.

Help!

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

My now-retired 3800 is sitting in the other room, no longer hooked up.
I just checked my P800 and there is a 13x19" paper size listed under the "A Series."

I suspect your 3800 has such a size, too, since I have printed hundreds of 13x19" prints on my 9-year-old 3800 and never had to define a custom size. I have mostly used Canson Baryta Photographique and Ilford Galerie papers. An Ilford box calls it "A3+ (329x483mm)" so maybe looking for an A3+ size would work.

If you can't find such a built-in size, I'll fire up my 3800 and look for what sizes I have used.

Did you try zoom to fill.
Both numbers on the top left of print do not match what you set.
They should be the same.

Jeremy,
I have a Epson R3800 still working and in use. (My fingers and toes are crossed that it continues, it has been an excellent printer for me with excellent results).  I have also set up custom papers and settings for things like platen, etc., and have set up custom sizes in years past. I have Photoshop CS6 and LR6 and must say that i have used photoshop with most of my printing especially with larger than 8x10 prints. However, I just looked and the printer driver does indeed have A3 and super A3, in its standard size choices, but I do not use LR much for printing, which you are going through.  I know that I have printed 13x19 with this printer and it printed what I thought and told it to do using Photoshop. If you need help, I can try things for settings to help you, since I do have LR6 and the Epson 3800 still working and hopefully staying alive much longer, I can't beat it at matte or B&W. Let me know if you still need help and I'll try.

Be sure in your custom paper size the width is the width of the paper. A common problem when printing a landscape oriented image is entering the final width of the image as the paper width in the custom paper size width dialog box.
