I agree. You couldn't possibly lighten the shadowed eye in the first one just a little, could you, Chris?

Very nice indeed Chris! It must be very eye catching in person.

If you open it in PS, you can see there is a much better delineation... but here's a try anyway

From his expression, I think he is thinking, "Hey, Chris! Why don't you hold a white card near my head as a reflector." ;)

I like them both, but to me the second one stands out as special. A clear view of the bird's wonderful colors, a background that has some variation but is perfectly unfocused and uncluttered, and a perch of analogous hue that matches up well with the bird. I might be tempted to crop just a bit from the bottom and/or top, but that's a minor matter of taste.

A, you try to get one to sit still for more than a minute, and B, you try to get one to sit still for a minute.

That's why herons are a little easier. ;)

Yeah. they're low and slow flyers but when they're making a pick, they are amazingly fast.
The first one is a Tri-Colored Heron just lumbering along and the second/third a Great Blue Heron going and making the kill.

Greta herons, Chris, whether Blue or other.
