Title: Epson Hot Press Bright going out of stock everywhere. Good alternatives?
Post by: John V. on October 21, 2016, 02:32:30 am: Epson Hot press Bright has been out of stock for a while now, most roll sizes. Lexjet has been ignoring me. I'm starting to wonder..

Any other distributors out there for this paper? I'm in Southern California.

Good alternative heavyweight smooth matte papers?

It's concerning with the holidays coming up. I'm hearing some talk and it doesn't sound like anything will be back to normal until after the first of the year.

Does anyone have suggestions for an alternative to HPB? Something that's also comparable price wise.

Post by: AFairley on October 22, 2016, 11:50:11 am: I use Canson Rag Photographique, it is slightly warmer than the Hot Press Bright because of lower/no OBAS, but nowhere near as warm as Hot Press Natural. But I use cut sheets.

The papers that have OBA content are always risky on the long term, the paper white will shift. The Epson Hot Press Bright seems to be quite stable in that category so recommending an alternative paper with OBA content could well become a bad advice.

Spectral plot considered Hahnemühle Photorag Bright White comes close. Also with OBA content and with a faster paper white shift in time compared to the EHPB. See Aardenburg Imaging tests for both papers.

Similar Lab L value but warmer the Canson Rag Photographique, as already mentioned. No OBA content so a safer advice.

Over the years, I've used a countless amount of this paper for reproducing artwork for clients. Always thought this line of paper was doing pretty well for Epson. Wonder what is going on??
