I just got the following error message. "Lightroom catalog named "Lightroom Catalog" cannot be opened because another application already has it opened. Quit the other copy of Lightroom before trying to launch." However, there is no other copy of Lightroom running. I am running Lightroom 6.0 perpetual license version.
I've never seen this message before. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The last time LR was run, it did not go through its shutdown procedure and did not delete its "lock" file. In the directory that contains the LR catalog, you will find a file "LR cat.lrcat.lock". You can just delete the .lock file and LR will open.

Thank you! Now I can't find where the catalog is located. I looked in "pictures/Lightroom", but I can't find it. I will keep looking. Thanks again for the help.

Try searching for .lrcat

You may also find via Lightroom by looking at the "Catalog Settings". It will provide a location.

Tricky, if it can't be opened.

Try using alt (pc) or option (Mac) when starting Lightroom, giving you the option to select different LR catalogs, hopefully with their location.
Sorry I'm not with my Mac at the moment and can't remember what is shown when you start LR this way.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful comments. I found and deleted the "lock" file, and now all is well! I had absolutely no clue how to solve this problem. Without your help, I would still be flailing about. This is a great forum. Thanks again for the help!!!
