And all my props fit into a small carrying case.

As if I would; as if I could!

Is that a super-8 movie cam being used as a ray-gun at 1'30"?

I think it's very interesting editorial.  He's worked in this genre before and I love his work.

Thanks for posting Rob.

Hi BC,

Yes, I think another desert one was for Harper's Bazaar... he really does have a thing for deserts and spacemen. Oddly enough, his desert Pirelli Calendar (1996) was one I disliked quite strongly, yet I do appreciate his fashion stuff a lot. I have a feeling that many great guys get that commission, and for some reason, it turns sour on them somewhere along the process. It doesn't always feature their best work - in my view, at any rate. Maybe there are too many cooks; maybe the challenge to be better than the rest makes some blow it. But hey, what a gig to get the chance on which to die!

Something that strikes me: watching that video makes me think that the very interesting tonality is possibly because the lighting/exposure looks like it's based on highlights and not shadows. In other words, he lets shadows go but keeps highlights safe; much like exposing for transparency film. It preserves the mystery. At least, I imagine that he had some control over how the video was going to look, and that it wasn't somebody else's choice of technique. Maybe all filming's pitched that way - no idea - never done it.

Rob,
what was the title of the movie ? All I'm getting is
" Sorry, this video is no longer available. "

Try again?

What happens now to me - I've just checked - is that one of the Lindbergh videos opens, but it's not the one in question.

With the video that does appear, don't open it up to full screen, but look at the row of alternative videos as thumbnails below it. Then, click on the one entitled BTS which is the one we're talking about here.

Enjoy!
