Title: Out of Chaos
Post by: Chris Calohan on August 23, 2016, 11:57:26 am
I lost a good shooting buddy to a tragic bicycle accident yesterday and in a sort of homage to him, I shot this scene this morning. Ray had a way of picking out the calm in the storm.

What a fine tribute to your friend.
The surf and shadow just kissing is quite stunning.

Nice photo!
Sorry to hear about your friend. I lost a friend in a cycling accident a little over a year ago. So sad, so sudden, and in our case could have been avoided. My condolences to you, the other friends, and your their family.

It is a bittersweet sadness in that after 40 years in the classroom, he only got to enjoy his freedom for a short 23 days. An Episcopal Deacon, Ray was fully aware of the unexpected twists and turns that life offers up at the least expected moment. A more warm, caring and loving individual would be hard to find.

The shot for me was he meeting his God. Perhaps it was just a nostalgic moment but I saw the calm lightly just touching the chaos much like Michelangelo's Creation on the Sistine chapel (and no, I am not lofting myself to that level, but one is influenced...always one is influenced).

Even in his death, Ray was able to give two kidneys, a heart, two lungs, and one cornea not to mention skin and other pieces and parts.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Sounds like he was a great and generous man. Kudos to him for being an organ donor! That is a way we truly can live on in a sense and make a huge difference in the life of someone else in need.

Agree with Eric - the shot is indeed stunning. You wrote a wonderful tribute for a great friend. Although we did not know him, thanks to your moving words we can sense your loss and get some idea of what all those years of friendship meant. We would be lucky if someone did the same for us when our time comes.

What a fine tribute to your friend.
The surf and shadow just kissing is quite stunning.

So sorry to hear that you lost a friend. At times I worry for my wife who regularly commutes, on her bike, mounatin roads on her way to work.  I enjoy viewing your work.
