Title: Adding to Collections
Post by: Robert Boire on April 23, 2016, 11:31:18 am
Hi,

It seems to me I used to be able to add and remove photos to and from target collections, see the list of collection and go to a collection all from photos in the film strip. Now this seems to work only in the grid view. Did something change or am I missing something.

Thanks

I'm running LR 6.4 (stand alone) on Windows 10 64. In Library (any view) or in Develop, I can right click on any photo in the film strip and a menu shows with many options, including:
Go to Collection... (which shows collections this image is in),
   Add to Quick Collection, and
   Remove from Collection.

Also, if you have the collection list showing on the left, when you select a bunch of images from the film strip, you can drag the selected bunch to the collection you want to add them to.

Works for me.

Works for me.

Hi,

Thanks but I was not precise enough in describing my problem.  BTW I am using LR 6.4 on Windows 7.

If you are in grid view and you have a target collection, you can left click on the top right hand corner of the thumbnail. This puts the image in the target collection and puts a small dot on the top right of the thumbnail. You can remove it from the target collection by left clicking on the dot.  Also you can left click on the collection icon on the bottom right of the thumbnail and display a list of collections...

I used to be able to do exactly the same thing on the thumbnails in the film strip, but not anymore.

The other behaviors you described work for me as well.

I've never done that - add or remove a photo from the target collection by clicking the top right of the photo in the film strip (as opposed to in the grid) - but I've just tried it and it works for me.  This is with LR CC 2015.5, which should be the same as 6.5 I think.

I observe the same behavior with regards to the filmstrip in both Library and Develop modules that Robert reports on Lr CC 2015.5 - I'm running on Mac OS 10.11.4.  I'm not sure when this changed, if it did.  I've been used to simply pressing B to toggle selection to Target Collections.

Well dang, that is going to save me a lot of time. Many thanks!

Me too!

I have never used a "target collection," but I just tried the upper right corner click on both grid view and film strip, in both Library and Develop modules, and it works.

I'm using LR 6.4 on Windows 10.

And if it worked for me (like it used to) it would save me lot of time too! >:(

Robert,

Just a guess - but, there is a minimum size threshold for the Add to Target Collection badge to be visible. If you drag your filmstrip to make smaller filmstrip thumbnails, the ability to click on the button to Add to Target Collection will disappear. It sounds like you need to drag the upper boundary of your filmstrip upwards to increase its size until the button reappears.

Nope... I see the button and the collections icon in the filmstrip and I can click on it....it just doesn't do anything. I also made the filmstrip bigger.... same result

Hi,

It's a preference:

Go to Edit -> Preferences, then click on the "Interface" Tab. Now in the "Filmstrip" section uncheck "Ignore clicks on badges" (see attached image)

Thanks for that, Francisco.
Some day when I have nothing better to do I've got to go through the entire "Preferences" list and figure out what each and every one does.
I've been lucky that the defaults have worked pretty well for me so far.

Wow! It works. Thanks Francisco.

This was pretty obscure. I do not remember needing to do this on previous version.
