Post by: Alexander Svet on March 24, 2016, 05:54:02 am
Hi!
Recently Rocky Nook published a new book “Capture One Pro 9: Mastering Raw Development, Image Processing, and Asset Management” written by Sascha Erni.

With Rocky Nook’s permission, we’re publishing four sample articles from the book:

1. Capture One: An Overview of the Rendering Pipeline - http://captureoneblog.com/capture-one-an-overview-of-the-rendering-pipeline/

2. Color Editor: The Basic Tab - http://captureoneblog.com/capture-one-color-editor-basic/

3. Adjustment Layers and Masks - http://captureoneblog.com/adjustment-layers-and-masks/

4. Understanding the Capture One Sharpening Tool - http://captureoneblog.com/capture-one-sharpening/

I hope you find it useful and here is also a 40% discount coupon code - http://captureoneblog.com/capture-one-book/

just started to read the preview pages and right at the beginning came across this quote... which is, well ... extremely questionable...:

Quote
Because every color management module is different, you may end up producing quite different results from computer to computer and program to program, and this is one reason Capture One renders colors differently from programs such as Adobe Camera Raw.
The different color management modules (CMM) do have the least impact on different colors in different programs. AppleCMM, MicrosoftCMM, AdobeCMM, the CMM of LittleCMS ... they all do (basically) the same calculations. Camera profiles have the largest impact on different colors in different RAW converters...

In the chapter about the Basic Color Editor the option to save color edits as new camera profiles is mentioned...which is true, of course. But no mention that the Basic Color Editor applies "smart saturation" and therefore should be used with care when creating new profiles. The Advanced Color Editor (which applies conventional saturation) is actually the tool of choice to create new profiles...

I wonder what the target group of this book might be...

Way too wordy, and doesn't get to the point.

All I want to see in a book about software is 1. Task required 2. steps to perform it.

That task orientation is time saving and makes a book very usable to quickly look up a task.

This book doesn't do this - too bad.

It also has a chatty style - too close to informal speech to be a good read.

I remember buying a lightroom book when Lightroom 1 came out - it was a good, task oriented book.

If it was possible for Lightroom 1 - why not for Capture One 9?

Does Adobe support the writing of books for their software? After all it's a great promo to get good books with a software. Many features of C1 stay unused or underused because of poor documentation.

PS: When is the C1 9 manual coming out? There is still none to download from the Phase One website.
