Title: Pentax K-1 Pixelshift superresolution samples

Ricoh published a couple of samples with the Pixelshift mode (superresolution through 4 shots using sensor shift) ON and OFF. Detail enhancement is amazing, no need even to say which sample has Pixelshift ON. Set the two images on PS layers to have more impact.

Additionally, this kind of image doesn't allow to verify the other two expected advantages from this mode:

- Elimination of any colour moiré (the less harmful monocrhome aliasing is still possible)
- Estimated noise reduction to 50% (4 shots averaging) = dynamic range improved by 1 stop

That's a better demonstration than the Imaging Resource demo. At least the Ricoh site shows how far away the subject is from the lens to establish a relationship between lens acuity and its ability to resolve detail at a certain distance.

There's only so much magnification a lens can bring to a high rez sensor, but then I've seen a while back I believe a Nikon P&S with a 1000mm fixed zoom lens that captured feather detail of a duck at quite a distance.

It's really hard to tell when distance is a better magnifier than the lens and sensor resolution out in the field.

Is there any information on file size, pixel number with Pixelshift?

The level of detail is awesome.

Filesize should be around four times a regular RAW file, and pixel number is exactly the same as in a regular shot. Increased detail is achieved by making Bayer interpolation unnecesary, not by increasing pixelcount.

In this regard Olympus' Hires goes one stop beyond: with 8 shots produces higher pixelcount, virtually eliminates all traces of colour/monochrome moiré, and achieves higher noise reduction. Too bad that Olympus didn't include a less ambitious but better understood 4 shots mode as this one.

Wonder if a macro shot of densely textured surface would deliver even more color detail using that a pixel shift technology. Is there a super close-up macro sample anywhere online? I'm not referring to the Imaging Resource fabric shots. Maybe a close-up of skin lit at a 45 degree angle.
