Title: Strobes with TTL for a7R II
Post by: Stuart Rickmann on February 09, 2016, 03:07:54 am
Does anyone know of a reliable strobe/wireless trigger combo, above 500 Ws, for the Sony a7R II?

My Hensel kit seems to work fine with the A7R II.

I mostly use the Porty 1200's. Very portable, 1200 Ws battery powered:

I use it with their Strobe Wizard radio system:

Which can also talk to their mains-powered heads etc.

Cheers, Hywel

OP asked for ____TTL____ with Sony.... TTL is different from just firing strobes remotely (even with HSS and/or remote manual power ratio control)... if just remote firing and remote power ratio control required (but no TTL or HSS) then Paul C Buff Eistein 640 + CyberCommander on camera is a good inexpensive option from a reliable manufacturer.

with TTL there are possible Phottix Indra (check with them if firmware update coming allowing Sony -> Odin II -> Indra TTL operation), CononMK ( http://flashhavoc.com/cononmk-i6t-ex-leopard-strobe-announced/ )

but you need to be careful about those - some might have very inconsistent color temp when used in TTL and different power output for different shots = see a test = http://www.joakimdrake.se/blog/profotob1vsindra500

but then may be the OP did not actually have __TTL__ in mind, who knows

My old CyberSyncs transmitter/receivers work with strobes through the multi interface shoe (A7II) as do my Canon speedlights, (no TTL though).

Yeah, I need TTL. Manual triggering is no problem.

see if Yongnau makes triggers for Sony. There are other brands that might make it (?) do some searching with ETTL trigger, transmitter, transceiver, receiver, etc...for Sony..

I have a Yongnuo trigger, but it does not do TTL. Yongnuo doesn't have strobes anyway, only speedlights.

do some searching
Phil - you miss the elephant... only 2 strobes have sony TTL (Phottix /if firmware is out/ & CononMk /working now/)... so search or no search.
