Title: Sunset on the Gunnison
Post by: MattBurt on January 12, 2016, 11:20:08 pm
The high today was 0F here. Not my first choice of weather but the sky had potential and I heard there was a big ice flow upstream earlier so I decided to brave the cold and have a look after work tonight.
No sign of the big ice flow that 10 miles upstream was raising levels 5 to 8 feet like a flash flood. Not sure if it hadn't hit yet or maybe had dissipated by this point in the river. Glad I went out for this sunset anyway, even if it is kitsch.  :D

Very good images, one can feel the cold.

The flowing water gives some speed to this quiet, "end-of-the-day" scene.

I really enjoy the second picture here. Very pretty. The aspect ratio really brings it out too. :)

The second is my favorite, too. Very nice.

I like both. The vertical favors the pink, wispy clouds. The horizontal favors the river. Well done.

Thank you all! I'm fortunate to have such easy access to this kind of scenery.

Another vote for #2. IMHO a much more powerful image. Thanks for braving the cold!

Thanks! What I really wanted was the #2 shot but with the moon which wasn't possible in a single shot with the lenses I have. If I had a wide enough lens the moon would look tiny in it too. I also took some frames to stitch and try to get a composition like that but I'm not sure if it will work.
