Stunning! If I take one photograph like that in my life, I will be very happy.

I agree. I really like the tree in the lower right; really gives the dune scale.

I assume Michael will post additional shots as time goes by, but for now I think the winner is Andy's home page shot...

I have been eagerly waiting for the return of the Namibia contingent.

This first by Michael is so like the Iceland shots of the glacier. Wonderful abstractions of the landscape, without straying far from the path. For me, they a kind of gestalt - both abstracts and straight simultaneously.

I'm with Tim on this one. Each is a fabulous image in its own right. What a stunning image of Andy's, however. The desert dunes end at water's edge. Almost looks like a photoshop composite it's so otherwordly.

Another entry on my list of places I gotta see before I'm done with livin'.

Which camera do you think that was taken with?  I'm curious if there is an insane level of detail in that tree.

my guess is...

Canon 1Ds MKII with 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens @ ISO 100

Which was not too hard as that's what it says beneath the image.

Thanks!  (Actually it only says that on the front page not on the bigger version.)

Oh, well, I was hoping for the new camerazilla.

(It is still an awesome photo.  I just have a crush on that new camera setup of his.)

As all have said so far, that is a beautiful photograph.

I mean no offence, and please correct me if I am wrong, but is that sensor dust that we can see in a few places in the sky? If so, I'm not surprised as I'm sure the sand would have played havoc on a shoot like that!

Cheers,

Daniel.

It could well be dust. The image posted is a quick and dirty (apparently literally) version done in Lightroom on my 12 Powerbook. No Photoshop yet. I'll do a final version and replace the one online when I'm home.

Right now just catching up on email at the Frankfurt airport, waiting for the final leg of my flight home.

Hi Michael,

Well then, I have to say that I am even more impressed with the image! For it to look like that straight out of the camera with almost nothing done to it is just amazing.

Thanks for sharing your work with us all.

Cheers,

Daniel

That one really hits a note with me.

I'm feeling a desire to purchase a large print.

I usually don't get that kind of feeling from seeing a photo.
