Title: using profoto b1 with 645z
Post by: gavincato on December 09, 2015, 08:32:44 pm
hey guys

toying with the idea of getting a profoto b1. I know it'll work fine on the canon gear but what do I get for it to work on the 645z?

At the moment the only flash gear I have is my canon 600ex's, and the cactus v6 triggers.

I've sent profoto a email but thought someone here might have tried them in meantime.

I'm not sure if their air remote radio system would work natively on the 645z - but maybe if i piggyback one onto the cactus v6 trigger it might.

I'm aware of flash sync speed issues - more a question how to best fire it.

cheers

Gav

I'm certain that you'll be able to sync up the strobe.  What you most likely will not get is the TTL exposure functionality that's available to CaNikons.

Yes, the sync speed I read is 1/125!!! shockingly slow.

Btw, a wireless syncing system is almot always indepenedent from a camera and flash setup.  Just look at what wires each accepts. Most are PC, mini, or phono.

cheers guys. And yes 1/125 is a bit annoying.

It works great - I've used the B1's with the normal Air remote, works dandy.  I've even used a Canon to set the TTL power, then switched over to the Z and took the same shot, with the same exposure.  Yes, 1/125th is slow, but it works.

If you want to sync all the way at 1/4000th, check out the Priolite, they've got a non-TTL battery powered strobe that'll do Hot-sync with the 645z - http://www.priolite-usa.com/hot-sync
