And it immediately caused me to think how beautifully it represents what art in photography is: what else is there, a rhapsody of shapes and forms, lines and patterns, tones and shades. Well, for me, at least:

There was a Facebook post by AA Gallery (https://www.facebook.com/69158596573/photos/a.123444916573.116596.69158596573/10153062439646574/?type=3&theater) on November 5.

Now I can find lots of mentions of it under its title: "Ice on Ellery Lake, 1959".
One interesting mention: Christie's (Auction house) list a print of it as sale # 2691 of lot 303. Estimated price was $7,000 to $9,000.
And "Price Realized " was $25,000.
The sale was on 5 April 2013.

You mean that a 3D reality was collapsed into a 2D one, without any attempt to create an illusion of 3D at least? A flattened and compressed perspective? Yes, there is that too.
"What else is there" is a part of one of my favorite quotes from Minor White, so much so that I included it, together with one from Socrates in the About (http://www.slobodanblagojevic.com/about.html) (me) section on my website, as I believe those two quotes pretty much sum up my approach to photography.

Without any hidden agenda, I'm curious just what your comment to SB meant. What do you mean by "collapsed depth?" And is it something you like or dislike about AAs photo?

Your wildly intemperate response to Slobodan's perfectly inoffensive post, which even had a question mark in it, was highly provocative and conveyed nothing of note. Should there be a next time? Should we consider ourselves fortunate if there is? I suspect not.

Prof. Higgins (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pygmalion_(play)) did wonders in that respect, so maybe worth a try? ;)

By present day standards, this photo would be "crap", as it has blocked shadows and burned highlights... go figure... I can almost hear the "DR brigade" saying it must have been shot with a Canon DSLR:)

To be fair, we are looking at a translation of it on a screen, so there is also a possibility some of the blocked up shadows and burned highlights may have a bit more in them than we see here.
That said, I'm usually a fan of AA's work, but this to me, seems to lack something. I know Slobodan is a fan of the almost modernist (or would it be more post-modern) interpretation of the view, but I personally am not quite a fan of the framing. The bright white cutting it in two makes it feel as though the top and bottom are at odds with each other, rather than a harmony between the two areas. But that is just my interpretation.
