Title: Valont Pont d'Arc
Post by: HCS on October 28, 2015, 05:04:37 pm
An old pano of quite some years ago. 9 images of a rather famous holiday destination in the south of France.

(of course the web version doesn't really shine).

I like the different curves in this shot. The v-shaped opening in the trees let us peek into the river and the eyes then go to the bridge. It's a very fine image.

I like the way you captured the light causing one to move around the image and adding depth.

A superb location and a file with more potential than is being shown (web version or not).

Try bringing up the detail in the shadows. I realize this is backlit, but to have the tree and cliff foliage near black turns it into an unnecessary black hole.

Also, try brightening the light coming through the arch to accentuate that feature. There is some beautiful golden light there.

Please don't take offence to my changes shown below. I don't presume to know what you were trying to do, but here is another take on the same scene that may offer some ideas. The settings are included; the shift in Hue was applied to the blue of the sky in the top right. I also used the Adjustment Brush to brighten the trees through the arch by +0.2 Exposure and +10 in Colour Temp. There is still more that could be done, but this is a start, anyway.

Wow, thanks Terry. I appreciate you taking the time to not only look, but give pointers on how to improve. Of course i take no offence  :)

I'll be honest to say that i find your version taken a bit too far. But i see now that my version indeed is quite dark. Also, only now i see it's slanted a bit. Not sure why i came up with this version, i'm pretty certain i corrected that before i had it printed. I must say, it printed quite nicely.

Thanks again, you made me think.
