Pennyrile Forest State Park, Kentucky. I was there last weekend speaking at their fall photography weekend. Also had to judge 350 entries for the photo contest.
I had seen this tree across the lake earlier but it was in bright sun and no fog. Waited for the predawn the next morning and had lots of fog. I felt the tree was naked and being revealed by the lifting fog. Not sure which treatment is more dramatic. Would love any thoughts you might have.

Nice.
I prefer the first, gentler version. I'm partial to soft fog shots. The second version feels a bit unnatural to me.
Others may differ.
-
I think the second is more dramatic and I also prefer it as I like the gradations of tone without the distraction of colour.
-
I like both versions almost equally. The first one being much more realistic, at least how I imagine the scene. The second one is more dramatic. In the end, I give the first one a slight edge over the second.

I vote with Eric.

I prefer #1, the colour gives it an extra bit of life.

These are both good, but I prefer the color processing. I like the quiet mood. There's not a lot of "spectacular" in the KY (or MO) landscape, compared with Western landscapes, so "quiet" works well. Yep, I am partial to the rolling hills, etc.

Funny you said that. I came out with a book named "Quiet Places" earlier this year.

Thank you, all. I love B&W but was leaning towards the color version, so color it is!

I'm a great fan of B&W, but I agree with the consensus here. I think this shot needs colour.

Me too. I am generally addicted to B&W, but here I think the color (or colour, depending on your GPS location) is important here.

While the second one is a fine picture, it lacks that little bit of "magic" that the first one has. The color is what takes it over the top.
