Title: Photoshop CC 2015.0.1 Update
Post by: hokuahi on October 05, 2015, 07:25:07 pm
Any idea why this latest update renders any final image as a completely white background. It happens suddenly at any stage, after an edit, plugin, etc. The image turns totally white and there's no way to undo it. Even going back in the history does nothing to bring the image back. The only way to see the actual image is to save it. The saved copy displays as it should, at least in the latest update to LR. I then have to reload it from LR to go back to editing but eventually the white background over the image re-occurs.

Really strange - I'm using the same Photoshop version as you are, on a similar Mac (but Mavericks), going back and forth between PS and LR and have never yet experienced this issue, so not clear this is a generic or general Photoshop 15.0.1 problem.

I'm not sure either except that all I've done is update to the latest version of both LR and PS (including a system restart). And BTW, it takes restarting PS in order to view an edited image as it should be. Just saving, closing, and then reopening an image yields the same total white 'overlay' or whatever it is.
Actually, I failed to mention and update my profile accordingly, that I'm using OS X 10.11, whether that has anything to do with anything, or not.

Unchecking "Use GPU in Photoshop" seems to have fixed it for now.

Before blaming Adobe, check whether your GPU is up to the task. I have seen comment to the effect that graphic cards should be one to two years old for efficient operation of this feature. Mine is five years old + and doing the job, but, maybe I'm lucky with the kind of card it is, who knows.......

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be, my system is a late 2013 Mac Pro with dual AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB cards. Unless, the requirements for running OS X 10.11 and PS CC 2015.0.1 have changed.

You're right - you have more GPU fire power than I have and more recent. Gets stranger as it unfolds!

Try resetting the Photoshop preference file. Hold down Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys (Mac: Command, Option, Shift) while starting up Photoshop. A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to delete the preferences/settings file.

Nope, the only solution so far is to turn off PS's GPS.

It may be a solution but it is only masking a symptom. I have the same setup, run the same operating system, software and don't experience the problem you describe.

Seems like you need an updated GPU driver...
Maybe the new OSX 10.11.1 BETA got updated GPU drivers.

Hmmm... that's interesting... I've isolated it now to NIK specific plug-ins that involve the use of a black mask as it hasn't happened in any other scenario. Wrote to NIK and they're not sure if it could be a bug with El Capitan, or, the latest PS update. Not sure what if anything in my system may have caused it because the only thing I've done differently since it appeared, is update the OS and PS.
