Title: Canon 17-40 or Tamron 17-35??
Post by: conan24 on March 24, 2006, 12:30:19 pm
I need help (in the form of suggestions) in choosing a wide angle lens.

It is going to mainly be used for landscape shots, secondarily as a walk-around zoom. Most of the time it will be on a 20D, but it also needs to fit my girlfriend's Elan 7E, which we both use  for traditional B&W work.

So that ruled out the Canon 10-22. I've whittled it down to either the Tamron SP17-35, which have gotten great reviews, and has a much better warranty, [/I]and is within my budget. Or, a 17-40L. More expensive, shorter warranty, but better quality?

I guess what's most important to me is overall sharpness (edge to edge), build quality, and price. Speed and weight aren't huge factors for me.

If you have experience with either (preferably both) lenses, or have other lens suggestions, i would very much appreciate your 2 cents worth.

Thanks- Dennis

No one I know has ever disliked the 17-40.  But the 17-35 has a lot of fans.  Try to hunt down Mike Johnston's review of the 17-35.
