Title: Pentax to halt 67II and 645nII
Post by: tsjanik on March 16, 2006, 07:51:01 am
Apparently Pentax will stop producing MF film bodies and a few of the 67 lenses.

Correction:  upon reading of the announcement by Pentax (in German) http://www.pentax.de/_de/photo/news/index....pe=&news_id=151 (http://www.pentax.de/_de/photo/news/index.php?photo&news&gruppe=&news_id=151)

It is apparent that  the bodies will no longer be imported because of the European Union's regulations concerning "Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment".  The announcement does not say that production of the items listed will cease.

I apologize for my premature announcement.  As Mark Twain might say: "The death of Pentax MF film cameras has been greatly exaggerated".

Thanks for the correction. Since I am sure there has been plenty of advanced notice about these new EU regulations, I guess that Pentax decided that it was not worth updating these products to bring them into compliance, due to the now rather low demand. So still a symptom of decline, but in a more gradual form.
