Title: 5k Imac - Configuration
Post by: Mark_Seng on August 12, 2015, 02:45:02 pm
I will order a new Imac 5k the next days.
So far I`m not sure which configuration i should go for.
I`m using it for photo editing 99% of the time. (a7r files, ps cc & lightroom, lots of hdr)

What do you think would make sense for my application:

3,5 Ghz i5 or 4,0 Ghz i7 (+300€)
1 TB Fusion Drive or 512 GB SSD (+360€)
AMD M290x 2 GB or AMD M295x 4 GB (+300€)

I guess the i7 and the ssd would speed things up a bit. But what about the AMD 4GB?
Does photoshop or lightroom benefit from the extra 2gb? Or is it just a waste of money?

You might consider delaying your purchase, since it is expected that the Retina Imac will receive an upgrade in September/October.

No one can be sure, but from what I read they will upgrade all Imacs with the Skylake chip.
