Do I need an appraiser for my work before I send my book to a gallery?

No, the value of your work will be determined by the market.
The gallery will (if they choose to represent you) set prices for your work they feel is appropriate. They will then adjust up or down as the market warrants.

An appraisal would be for originals being donated to a museum or an estate settlement. In the vast majority of cases the artwork of individuals is valued at zero.
