is a game changer. (The 12). Now yes!
This exactly what I've been talking about for years.
Only Smoke was close but it sort of failed in the editorial part.
The new generation has been screaming "no more roundtrippin" until exhaustion and BM is the only one who seemed to understand deeply were this industry is going.
PS: (I know that I've been very insisting and heavy, barking in this forum for a truth all-in-one, but beleive me, I was far from being the only one...
I tell you something guys: "this" will be killer, considering that they also own Fusion, wich covers then 100% of the territories.
A truth all-in-one has been asked for almost a decade WW, nobody listened. Now a lot of brands will deeply regret their arrogance IMO. It could become the PS of motion and it will rule
the game with no competitors.
Also, the 3 proposals are really nailed because they fit the needs of everyone. The lite for amateurs, the 800 bucks´ for people like us and the full for major houses.
I think that they will have a collapse when they'll open the download. You'll see...
This week, I'm going to upgrade my Workstation to the recommended specs and above. I've been waiting too long for this and won't miss the party.

Coming soon. For the moment the 11 still in download. What do they mean by soon? No idea. But it's there.

What is astounding is how little is 'dumbed out' of the Lite version (https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/compare) - basically only Unrendered Mastering, 4K monitoring, Noise Reduction, 3D & Stereo, Collaboration & Remote
BM really want the independents to start using this!

True. And 800 bucks ain't the end of the world either for a Little more comfort. (I beleive this versión will be the one for most small prods and many of us here)
I don't have a cristal ball Chris, but this might become the industry standart in many production house except for the big cine prods niche where colaborative-splitted specialities will keep going as it was and is.
So a kid will train with the free versión and then ready to put itself in the working market.
But also, the fact that Fusion is also BM now, it is sure that if sophisticated compositing is needed, the 2 softwares will probably be extremely well integrated. I don't have any info on that aspect so far but it should be logical. Fusion has also a free versión and also very Little dumbed.

No kidding. The only cost for this nearly full-featured NLE is the hardware to run it. We've come a long way since the $150K a seat Avid.

What remains to be seen however are a few aspects:
- It is really ressources-consuming (but that we knew it). To run this properly... that's the reason why of my title thread.
- What about RT performances? Had some imputs in the Cow that it could not be as good in that aspect than some traditional NLEs (as compared within a same Workstation). But all is very speculative so far.
- How is audio implemented? (export) important point.
- and probably the most important: will the integration with Fusion be smooth and mess-free?

Resolve 12 is in beta right now.
It is indeed been moving towards a more fleshed out NLE as well as it's already best in class colour correction tools.
Generally, I can say Resolve is a pig for GPU's. The main bottleneck will be GPU and then usually, depending on what file formats you shoot, the I/O drive side of things serving those files up fast enough.
Resolve is already ubiquitous in post environments. Everyone uses the lite version for transcoding and quick and dirty work because it reads everything, including all the high end RAW video formats. IN fact, many (ie Hollywood) prefer the Resolve De-bayer of REDcode, Sony RAW and ArriRaw over the native manufacturer tools.

Please let us know what hardware you consider essential to run Resolve. The advice on the BM website is way out of date. Goff

It's a very how long is a piece of string question.
it will run on more machines now with V12, BUT, it's real time performance varies greatly with GPU abilities.
I have a 4 year old i7 laptop with an old 6750 1Gb GPU and it can do ProRes 1920 no problem off a TB drive with simple grading.
As soon as you add tracking, keying, and more nodes it goes downhill pretty quickly. Noise reduction will make it slow to a crawl.
If you want to start running 4K RAW or RED, SONY RAW etc then it escallates very quickly from there.
A lot of people are having great results with Hackintosh and 2+ GPU card setups but I've not gone there myself.

Oh and one more thing. We all know that Apple has killed the add graphics card thing on their computers and since every piece of modern software needs super powered graphics cards, tell those guys to come out with a separate box that will run a graphics card that plugs into thunderbolt. No third party stuff because I have two different brands of tb enclosures for my RED Rocket cards an sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, but stability (as you know) is the most important element if your working under deadline and pressure.

I don't know if it would be of any interest for you, but they re-borned Media100 and possibly could fit into your workflow?
I think that it's been rebuilt for FCP7 users in mind and may give a serious boost without having to make a big revolution into a workflow in use.
in terms of field performances it seems very strong.
Maybe worth having a look at it IMO. Who knows.

Ps: Resolve as a coffee maker? mmm...I live in Madrid, hot dry climate... Resolve may resolve (no pun intented) my existential aversion for roundtrippings, fragmentated Apps and third-party plug-ins...but it can't compeat in having my coffees in the next door terrasse, watching lazyly the very Little dressed womens passing-by.

Actually doing the same style edit in X vs. 7 at the start X saves me 50% of the time, but with more complex editorial additions, down to conform, round tripping of xml, fine tuning some coloration on the timeline, omf export to our sound company, in the end 7 is faster.

Coot, I like when you're inspired and write posts like those. True, BM has a lot to do with what was Apple. And they deserve all the respect for their apportations in this craft-industry.
I think they are unstoppable and they will probably reshape everything like Apple did.

I installed the new beta on Windows 7 with no issues and it seems to work fine (too early to report if there are any issues)

I know it's still in beta, and I know I'm overdue for a system update, but wow is it slow. Perhaps slow isn't fair, it's hungry for resources my system doesn't have.
