Title: What camera is Alec Soth using here in the Youtube clip?
Post by: Gilgamesh on June 24, 2015, 07:45:06 am
Alec is famed for his use of the 10x8 format

So, what's this gear (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3cjMFjey6A) he's using is his excellent new book, "Songbook"?

Is that a 'Blad? Not sure about the flash.

in that shot in his studio? It looks like a Hasselblad H model. I didn't see a flash but it look s like he's got a simple swing arm flash bracket attached to it.

HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3cjMFjey6A)
Flash is at 1:49

The studio is almost at the very beginning. Several Youtube interviews are carried out here, so I think it maybe is his studio.

Looks like an old Minicam flash head - nothing fancy at any rate, just a a simple manual flash with an external battery/capacitor pack. You could get the same results with a Lumadyne, Norman 200/400B, etc.

In a recent reddit he did, he said he used an H4D-40 and an elinchrom flash.
