Title: Use Before Date on Epson Ink
Post by: Mike Guilbault on May 29, 2015, 12:58:48 pm
I have a 700ml LK cartridge that has a Use Before date of 02-2015. It's never been opened. What am I risking by using it?

My experience using inks for Epson's that are far older would be no, go for it.

I'm running down some old blacks right now, both PK and MK which have a Nov 2008 and early 2009 date.  :o :o :o

I would also go for it.  It should be fine.  Would I use it in my printer 9900/7800, yes if I knew it had been stored in a cool environment.

Did you see what happened in Ghostbusters when they crossed the streams?  ;)

Hi Mike,

I'm certain that most replies to this post will be the same as the majority so far.  I've used Epson inks far beyond the "expiration" date with no apparent negative effects.  Of course Epson's reply would be totally different, but their job is to sell inks.  If you had a problem and called Epson service, the first question would be - "are you using outdated inks?"  That's always the lead question, but again, that's the corporate routine.  With all of the Epson printers I've owned I have never discarded an "outdated" ink cart and have never regretted it.

If it has been sitting on a shelf in the same position for a long time, I would just make sure that you agitate it well before insertion...

That's what she said  ::)   ;)

Thanks guys... I'll go ahead.  I have some in the printer now that are a couple months out and everything seems fine.

A few years ago I called Epson to ask about a problem I was having with an Epson 3800, and thought one of the possibilities might be that I was using some inks that were a couple of years old. They told me that the problem was very unlikely the age of the inks, as they had some in their workshop that were much older than that and showed no significant change. My problem did in fact turn out to be something else.
