Love the lines and the shadow. My only problem is the halo around the woman (easily seen in the thumbnail version), is the effect intended?

I processed this 12 years ago so I don't remember. Found it on one of my hard drives today. I like the effect and it is my "vision" of the image. :) On hindsight it looks like she is walking through what looks like a shaft of light.

Stamper,

If that was true the person would not be in shadow.

The shadow tells us the light's directly behind her.

...most definitely. As well, the figure and the shadow are nearly touching the frame edges?... which is not successful as there is no room for them to breathe. A thought, when you submit your image for "User Critiques"...your going to most likely get  a variety critiques about a myriad of elements in what you've submitted...and that will by it's very nature....include what may or may not have been your vision at the time...  /B

No kidding!

The halo around the woman is in fact rim lighting something which I find attractive.

Rob as a Scotsman you will know Exchange square in Glasgow. She was walking north between the Goma building and the steps to the west of the building which means that the sun is directly behind her to the south. I deliberately chose to stand on the steps to capture the silhouette. Hopefully that helps?

Thanks for the photographic lecture. There is a tight crop that takes out elements that would have spoiled the composition. The comment about vision was in reply to francois who enquired about the halo.

Stamper,

Thanks for clarifying.

Psychologists say we tend to romanticize the past. 12 years ago you made a processing mistake, which resulted in the halo. And that is ok, years ago every single one of us was much worse at processing than we are today. It is also ok to like a mistake. We all like to post-conceptualize our intentions. But to claim it is the "fact" that it was "rim lighting"!? Seriously!?

Slobodan for some reason you like to nit pick my posts for critique. Criticising clipped blacks and then posting images with clipped blacks. The motor cycle for instance. That wasn't a processing mistake in the image above. IMO you have a huge chip on your shoulder that is bigger than your photographic ability. JJJ was correct about you being the rudest man in the forum. You are now the second person that I will be ignoring.
