Title: Remarkable Lens: The El Nikkor APO 105mm f/5.6

I continue to be impressed by the degree of correction and general overall look of the El Nikkor APO 105mm, not to be confused with the more available non-APO form of this lens. This image was taken with the Nikon D810 in broad daylight, using Zerene Stacker. What is interesting to me is the white-color of the opening flower (on the right), which was very pale white, and that paleness comes through. This lens is also very sharp.

Of course, sRGB color does not do it justice.

Here is a similar photos taken with the new Zeiss Otus 55mm APO f/1.4 (with 14mm of extension), stacked with two shots, one focused at the center of each flower. No, it’s not perfect, but for two shots, it is pretty nice. And I could have done it (perhaps) with one carefully chosen shot. It makes one almost forget about stacking.

In the first photo there are some problems (imperfect blending) on the (back) central stem, here a manual blending could help.
