Title: Favourite Matte papers?
Post by: FrankG on March 16, 2015, 07:12:24 pm
What are your fave / the best matte papers (sheet) with little or no optical brightners?
If you care to add the characteristic that makes it unique, please do.

So far I have been given this list:

Somerset Museum Rag
Moab Entrada Rag natural
Moab Kozo and Unryu papers

If this is a well worn topic, please link me.

Thx

I like Epson Cold Press Natural. No OBA's, nice texture. The name doesn't sound as sexy, but I still like it. ;)

Canson Rag Photographique 310, is in my opinion, the best smooth rag paper available. Smoother than all the Hahnemühle rag papers.

For a soft texture, BFK Rives, if you can afford it. Somewhat similar to Epson Velvet Fine Art, but in a heavier weight.

For medium textured paper that really holds resolution, Hahnemühle German Etching. Some OBA content, but quite low.

For heavier textured papers, it is really up in the air.

Epson Hot and Cold pressed papers are really very good for their price, but my quarm with them is that the bright papers are a mite too bright, and the ‘natural’ papers are a little too warm.

I really like the results I get on any of the Hahnemühle Matte Fine Art papers (http://www.hahnemuehle.com/en/digital-fineart/digital-fineart-collection/matt-fineart.html).

+1 for Canson Rag Photographique, very smooth surface, cooler than Epson Hot Press Natural but without the OBAs of the Bright ( which is cooler than the Canson).

lol... and that's exactly why I like the 'Natural'... especially for portrait work.
