Title: Hasselblad H5D50c WIFI upgrade
Post by: rxchaos on February 13, 2015, 12:26:05 pm
Anyone know what the status of Hasselblad's WIFI upgrade is for the H5D50c.  They announced it some months ago - http://www.hasselbladusa.com/products/h-system/h5d-50c-with-wi-fi.aspx
The upgrade was supposed to be $1000 if done by March. I checked with a distributor in my area and was told they've not heard anything from Hasselblad and it was supposedly in the works.

Hi IgorSH

Can you specify "works great"? :)

Connection directly to an iphone and ipad works perfect and instant?
The preview from the file on ipad is good enough to see if sharpness and exposure is correct?

best regards

Yes. Connecting to camera is simple. There are two modes:
"Client" for connecting your camera to local wireless network. You iOS device should be connected to the same network;
"Direct(AP)" - you camera creates Ad-hoc and you can connect your device to that network (great for working on location)

100% is enough for checking sharpness and exposure. Although somehow it shows some magenta shift when looking at 100%.

I wish there was a histogram option and live view preview. I hope they make it into next versions.

Anyway disapointing they still use the old screen as on the h4d, for this price I expect more.
I would even pay the 200bucks higher cost of  a proper screen :)

Yes. After getting used to all modern phones even the cheap ones have hidef display, h5d's screen resolution and colors suck big times. Outdoor you cannot even say if it's under or overexposed without looking at the histogram. Tethering is not an option at many times outdoor.

Before their excuse was "we cannot get the parts", the reality is not only that they don't want to pay the $10 per screen and deal with the case integration issues and retool for the casing, but they would need to locate a camera screen specialist consultant, do the board 2 or 3 times etc. whie they find out the hard way about any hardware issues, and then do the recertification for the FCC and EC labels.

There's a reason one calls certification a "Non-Tariff Barrier". Large companies love rules and regulations, their existence is a competitive advantage.

I'd expect a screen change at the next major revision of their back casings. Which may be due when they move to USB tethering and HDMI liveview. Or maybe they'll just get rid of the screen and add an iPhone clip.
