It's a bit like a Rorschach test.  I see a headless chicken to the left of the lava claw.

I bet your legs got hot Michael. When I did that I singed a lot of the hair off my legs.  Long pants would have been advisable :)  Very cool shot.

Since it was shot from a helo I wasn't too concerned about the hair on my legs, but even at 100 feet above the flow the heat was intense.

Now that is not "just" a shot of a lava flow - that is a fantastically composed image which elicits a visceral reaction of pleasure!
The goosebumps just won't go away.

Very nice indeed. I'd be nervous in a helicopter - I wonder if it is hard to fly those things in the updraft from the lava.

Yes, it definitely is hard. But the pilot we had was very experienced at this, having done it many hundreds of times. He also knew what photographers need in terms of positioning.

We had the doors off and it made for a great helicopter shooting experience.

I have a mountaineering harness that I bought after a seatbelt failed in the back of a Jet Ranger.  I've spent a lot of time in small aircraft with the doors off.  That's part of the reason I have tinitus.  From now on, I'm responsible for the harness that keeps me in the aircraft.  It was centrifugal force that kept me in the helicopter when the seat belt failed.
