Title: determining weight needs with tripod/monopod

I've been exploring the possibility of replacing my manfrotto stuff with gitzo in order to lighten the load some. In this exploration, I am having to determine my weight needs for how much the tripod/monopod/head will hold up. What am wondering is, do I need to factor in an amount of weight for the pressure added by my leaning a little bit on the camera/mono or tripod when setting up a shot? I don't put a lot of pressure or anything, but know some is added. Thoughts?

When I've looked at tripods, I've guesstimated that I would add a kg or two by holding the camera and lens down, and used that for making my decision.

I would get a tripod/head combo rated at least double the combined weight of your camera + lens. You don't want your rig to be near the breaking point during standard usage, and rigidity will probably be inadequate at the ragged edges of the load limit anyway.
