Title: Epson 7900 calibration

I have an Epson 7900 and am considering moving over to Canon for various reasons but I notice that the Canon IPF8400 has a built in densitomter to linearise/calibrate the machine, presumably because the output can drift over time and need attention.  I'm curious as to how my Epson has remained consistent in its output over 3 years without any intervention from me?

The printer is incredibly consistent in behavior between units and over time, in part, an advantage of their Piezo heads.

Does this mean the Canon's aren't as consistent, hence the requirement of the built in densitometer, or is it used for custom media linearisation?

I believe so. But you calibrate them and back they go.
