Title: Why CMYK Profiles?

What do you use CMYK profiles for? Why make CMYK profiles?Are they better than RGB profiles?

Hi Mike,

They are used for press printing (e.g. printed media like magazines, newspapers, etc.), with CMYK or more inks.

CMYK profiles are quite useful when you need to control K independently from CMY - for example you want to print text with pure K without any CMY addition. A CMYK profile lets you also control GCR, so you can decide if you want to build neutrals using more CMY and reduce appearance of raster grain, or more K and reduce metameric defects in artificial light. More aggressive GCR also saves ink/toner.
